A marine engineer who was apparently named 'Saddam Hussein' by his grandfather some 25 years ago is now facing problems, thanks to the name of the then dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein. He has then applied to change his name to Sajid. After changing his name in vital information such as driving licence, passport he has approached his university to get his name changed but it persisted his name to be changed in the CBSE certificates first. But after the CBSE didn't respond to his request, Sajid has appeared before the court where the case have taken a highlight.
Sajid (formerly named Saddam) graduated from Tamil Nadu’s Noorul Islam University in 2014, ranking second in his batch. And while most of his batch mates are now employed, he has been rejected 40 times – for every job he has applied for. All because he shared his name with the deceased Iraqi ruler.
The Jharkhand High Court, however, seems to be treading with caution given that a number of people have abused the system in the past. The court's hearing beckons on 5 May, this time to force authorities to change the name on his secondary school certificates, after which his graduation papers will need amending.
