Vodafone And Idea Declares Joint War Against Jio. Everything You Need To Know.

The most expected merger has taken place and the telecom war has reached a whole new level. Though it was rumored that there'd be ties between Aditya Birla's Idea and British company Vodafone's Indian branch - Vodafone India as well as a tie up between MTS and Bharti Airtel, Idea and Vodafone India decided to make the first move, declaring war on Reliance Jio, whose majority has been crippled as of now.

The combined entity of Vodafone India and Idea is expected to have a user base of more than 400 million customers, crippled Airtel's base to become the second largest telecom network in India. Airtel is expected to have a customer base of about 2.5 million while Jio's base is around a billion.

The merger took place on March 20, 2017 after repeated pressure from Reliance Jio, which sent shares of both Airtel and Idea down plummeting. Idea accepted Vodafone's offer to become what is said to be India's largest telecom company, owning about 1850 MHz of bandwidth.

Of the acquisition, Idea has 26.1 % of shares and Vodafone has 45.1 % of shares and it is expected that both companies would be level their stake holdings to an even by the end of 2022. The merging is expected to be fully operational by mid 2018.
