India is experiencing an unexpectedly high rainfall this season. While it was a much needed respite for everyone, the situation is now turning grave as we speak.
59 people have already been consumed by the floods in the eastern parts of the country.
Just this past year, floods in the Southern parts of the country had shook the very foundations of civilization.
And looks like we haven’t learnt anything from the Chennai floods as people continue to die every passing day in Eastern parts of the country.
And since this national calamity is receiving very little or no media coverage, we bring you 10 things you don’t know about the flood situation of East India.
Here’s all you need to know about the situation.
1) 6 states including Assam, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Odisha have been affected by heavy rainfall in the eastern parts of the country.
2) 27 people have died by lightning strikes in Odisha alone.
3) Home Minister Rajnath Singh has confirmed that over 30 lakh people have been affected in Assam alone. In addition, lakhs of people have been displaced from their homes.
4) The number of affected people in Bihar is 26.19 lakh.
5) Home Minister Rajnath Singh had earlier confessed that he did not know that the situation was this grave. After monitoring and observing the gravity of the situation, Rajnath Singh has announced a compensation of Rs. 4 lakh for the victims of the floods.
6) In the Morigaon and Barpeta districts of Central Assam, 1.95 lakh hectares of crop area is still under water, which is 3 times as much as the entire city of Mumbai.
