"I emphatically request that Respected Chinnamma, general secretory of Aiadmk, has to immediately take over the leadership of the Government, as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.",said an AIADMK leader.
The voices have once again started coming, asking VK Sasikala, who was just elected as the general secretory of AIADMK party, to take over immediately as chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai wrote recently,
When our country is about to face Parliamentary election in two years, our Party AIADMK has to function very effectively to get the complete support of the people, and to continue to win the election, as was done effectively by Puratchi Thalaivar and Puratchi Thalaivi, I emphatically request that Respected Chinnamma, general secretory of Aiadmk, has to immediately take over the leadership of the Government, as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. This was known to the media through the letter issued by the AIADMK party office.
Her Poignant speech to the AIADMK members on saturday was probably the cause for his appeal to charge as CM. Thambidurai states,
“Respected Chinnamma has the brilliance, potential and love for the people, love for the Party workers and care for the Party cadres, as Puratchi Thalaivi Hon'ble Amma had; and it is my sincere and strong belief that it is very important that Respected Chinnamma has to shoulder the responsibility of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, to take our party forward and to carry on the governance of Tamil Nadu, for the welfare and benefit of the state and people of Tamil Nadu.”
Mr Thambirdurai isn't the only one to propose this. AIADMK leaders have requested earlier to "chinnama" to take charge as CM.
Revenue minister Udayakumar had pleaded earlier for the same, and was emphasized by spokesperson Ponniayan, who argued that it was natural for the leader of the party to also hold the reins of the government in dravidian parties.
Mr O Panneerselvam, who took charge after Jayalalithaa's death on December 5, has also been interim CM in 2001 and 2014. He has been a visible supporter of Mrs.Sasikala. He had even avoided using the CM designation in the advertisement which was published in a local tamil newspaper, choosing instead to use his party designation.
