When Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, took to the stage and announced the launch of Reliance Jio services in India, many telecom operators were taken aback. Jio offers free voice calling and does not charge for data roaming. We at News18 Tech tell you how you can get yourself a Reliance Jio SIM and get it activated to unleash the power of 4G LTE on your smart device.
How To Get a Jio SIM?
Reliance, to start with, gave Jio Preview offer with select OEM's in India. That basically meant that if you had a 4G device for the select list of companies that Reliance tied up with, you could walk into a Reliance digital store and get a SIM.
Starting September 5, Reliance Jio is available for all. The SIM is available free of cost at all Reliance-owned Digital Stores, Digital Xpress stores throughout the country. The Jio SIM will soon also be available at a local telecom store also starting today. The SIM is free of cost.
What Documents Are Required?
At the AGM, Reliance Industries Chairman announced that the only documentation you'll require to get a Jio SIM is your Aadhar Card. The eKYC customer verification to activate SIM cards almost instantly is hassle- free. You can check out the details here.
How to Activate a Jio SIM Card?
After you get hold of your Jio SIM card and register, an email will be sent to you by the company. The billing, change of plans and activation of the Jio ecosystem is completely online. You'll get your bills via an SIM or an email. The company will also give you a call and tele-verification will be done with you to complete the verification process for your phone number. To activate the VoLTE, you'll have to make a call on 1977, and ask the operator. The tele-verification can also be done by calling on this number. Just keep the bill and your SIM details handy when you place the call.
