The iPhone 5S currently retails for Rs. 28,999 Rupees on Snapdeal. A college kid got it for Rs 68. No, there're no 'lifehacks' or cashbacks involved - it's just a customer who spotted a deal, one that even Snapdeal didn't intend!
Punjabi University B.Tech student Nikhil Bansal did what anyone would do if they spot a 99.7% off on an iPhone - he grabbed it
He ordered the iPhone 5S for Rs 68 on February 12, and waited. And waited. And waited - the phone never came, because it might have been a technical snag rather than a great Snapdeal discount.
Then, Bansal took Snapdeal to court
Filing a consumer court complaint in Punjab’s Sangrur district, he alleged that Snapdeal refused to ‘honor the deal’, Trak.in reported. Not only did the court order Snapdeal to sell him the iPhone 5S for Rs. 68, but the ecommerce giant was also made to pay a Rs 2000 penalty.
Snapdeal tried to fight back
Snapdeal contested the decision in a consumer forum, and reportedly lost again, this time being ordered pay a fine of Rs 10,000 to close the case. And we're cheering him on - it's the perfect consumer lesson to the e-tailer, infamous for sending rocks and wood to customers.
