Suburban Train services in Chennai to face a hit for the next 2 months

CHENNAI: Southern Railway will either cancel or partially cancel some suburban train services between Chennai and Gummidipoondi on January 21, 23, 25, 28 and 30, February 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25 and 27, and March 1, 3, 5, 8, 10 and 12.

The changes were made to allow railway technical teams to carry out repair work on the Chennai Central-Gudur section.



Following are some of the trains to be partially cancelled.



The Chennai Beach Gummidipoondi EMU local (42601), which leaves Chennai Beach at 9.40 am, will be partially cancelled between Ennore and Gummidipoondi. It will be turned back from Ennore to Moore Market Complex (MMC) railway station as a passenger special.

The MMC-Gummidipoondi EMU local (42015), scheduled to leave MMC at 10.25am, will be partially cancelled between Ennore and Gummidipoondi.

The GummidipoondiMMC local (42030), scheduled to leave Gummidipoondi at 3.15 pm will be fully cancelled.

Special trains:


Southern Railway will run special trains between Chennai Egmore and Tirunelveli to meet the extra rush of passengers.

Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli superfast special train (06181) will leave Chennai Egmore at 10.45pm on January 25 and reach Tirunelveli at 12.30 pm the next day.


The train will halt at Tambaram, Changalpet, Villupuram, Tirupadiripuliyur, Chidambaram among other stations.


Tirunelvel i-Chennai Egmore Suvidha superfast special train (00642) will leave Tirunelveli at 6.20pm on January 26 and reach Chennai Egmore at 6.10am the next day. The train will halt at Kovilpatti, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchchirappalli, Vriddhachalam, Villupuram, Changalpet and Tambaram.
